Awards and Recognitions

Our work is used to build up an international spatial database , hosted by the European Environment Agency

The online map tool is called “Discover Map Services (DiscoMap)” (https://discomap.eea.europa.eu/Index/Index.aspx) to which our work is contributing information on cities with climate change adaptation policies and plans (https://discomap.eea.europa.eu/Index/Services.aspx?agsID=45&fID=6485).

Our work is again contributing to reports of international agencies, such as the European Environment Agency.

Our papers Reckien et al. (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019) all contributed to the EEA Report No 12/2020 Urban Adaptation in Europe (https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/urban-adaptation-in-europe) with Diana Reckien also being Contributing Author.

The scientific study “How are cities planning to respond to climate change? Assessment of local climate plans from 885 cities in the EU-28” by Reckien et al. (2018) has been awarded the José María Sarriegi Major Catastrophe Research Award in its first edition by Fundación Aon España and the Catastrophe Observatory.

The “José María Sarriegi” prize was created by the Fundación Aon España and the Catastrophe Observatory to recognize the best academic research work on disaster management that was published in the two years prior to the award in a specialized journal. The topic of 2019 was climate change.

Marta Olazabal, member of the EURO-LCP network and Research Fellow at BC3 – Basque Centre for Climate Change, received the prize at the Symposium of the Catastrophe Observatory, under the honorary presidency of Her Majesty the Queen, on behalf of the entire author team on November 7 2019 at the Postgraduate Campus of the University of Navarra, in Madrid.

Our research is attracting strong interest from national and international media

Since the publication of our first paper “Climate change response in Europe: What’s the reality? Analysis of mitigation and adaptation plans from 200 urban areas in 11 countries. Climatic Change Letters (2014) 122:331–340” our scientific studies have been cited in several articles published in the national and international press.
